10 Returning Marvel Actresses For Olivia Wilde's Spider-Verse Movie

Wilde should look to the past to fill websling Sony's Spider-Verse to a successful future.

Now that Olivia Wilde is officially confirmed to direct a yet untitled female-centred Marvel movie for Sony’s Universe, fans are rife with speculation with who the titular character (or characters) may be.

Spider-Woman is currently the favourite rumour doing the rounds, however, few would complain if Wilde was at the helm for a movie spotlighting the likes of Black Cat, Silver Sable, or even Madame Web.

Surely, Sony is looking at the rising stars of Hollywood in hopes to put fresh faces on new characters. While the likes of Da’Vine Joy Randolph (Empire; High Fidelity), Margaret Qualley (Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood), Park So-dam (Parasite), and Michaela Coel (I May Destroy You) would be welcomed with open arms, Wilde should pair these new comers with a few seasoned vets…

…Specifically, those who were in Marvel movies once before.

With a do-over in mind, these ten former-Marvel actresses deserve a second-life in Sony’s Spider-Verse.

It's also worth mentioning that noticeably missing from this list are actresses from Fox’s X-Men saga. Since the series recently concluded and is still quite fresh in fan’s minds, they’ve been excluded.

10. Elizabeth Banks

Previous Marvel Movies: Spider-Man, Spider-Man 2, Spider-Man 3

Elizabeth Banks has had an extremely successful decade - from starring roles in The Hunger Games and Pitch Perfect series to acting/directing Pitch Perfect 2 and Charlie's Angels. It's easy to overlook many of the works in her early career, including her inclusion in Sam Rami's Spider-Man series trilogy as Betty Brant.

A hugely underrated actress and director, Banks had far too little screen time as Betty Brant, which is excusable considering Rami's choice to have Mary Jane Watson as Peter Parker's main fixation.

Thankfully, Banks has been featured elsewhere, but for every major box office film that gave her ample time to shine, there’s at least one or two others that left us wanting more.

Elizabeth Banks is a perfect choice to bring into Wilde's Spider-Verse, particularly as a secondary character that can transition over to other films. Should she receive a smaller role akin to Betty Brant, it would at least leave her open to potentially directing one of these films.

If Sony is searching for another female director to helm a heroine-starring film, there are few options better than Banks.
