10 Ridiculous Comic Book Castings (That Actually Totally Worked)

7. Ryan Reynolds - Hannibal King (Blade: Trinity)

Why It Was Ridiculous: It might not be inconceivable to see Ryan Reynolds in an action film these days, but back in 2003 when his casting in Blade: Trinity was announced, it just didn't make much sense. This is the guy best known for starring in Two Guys, a Girl and a Pizza Place, Van Wilder and Harold and Kumar, right? The Result: Reynolds ended up being the only thing in the movie that didn't totally suck. Perhaps the only smart decision writer-director David S. Goyer made on the movie was allowing Reynolds to perform a lot of improvised takes, where he'd crack largely unscripted jokes and just riff off the cuff. These resulted in the film's few entertaining moments, and in addition to Reynolds' impressive physique, proved that he was actually taking the part seriously, as is more than can be said for anyone else in the film.
