10 Ridiculous Film Stories Everyone Believed (But Were Actually April Fool's)

5. Kindergarten Cop To Join The Criterion Collection

Criterion can joke all they like about the reasons for making Kindergarten Cop part of the prestigious Criterion Collection, but if this was actually true, I'd have bought a limited edition steelbook version in a heartbeat. Arnold Scharzenegger's irreverent high school-set crime drama-comedy is one of the most bizarre films in the actor's repertoire, albeit a rather underrated one, seeing the man-mountain in a perfectly self-deprecating mode. Given that the Collection tends to favour classic films from acclaimed directors, doesn't this one seem a litte far-fetched? Well, no, not really. Remember that Criterion, in a spectacular about of favouritism to Michael Bay (who was taught at University by a scholar who helps pick the films selected), inducted Armageddon into the group, and really, that defies explanation far more than this Schwarzenegger-starring cult classic. The perfectly straight-faced attempt to make us believe it worked wonders.
