10 Ridiculous Horror Movie Villains That Shouldn’t Have Worked… But Did

7. Lubdan - Leprechaun (1993)

Whether it’s man-eating mermaids in The Lure, wendigos in Antlers, or changelings in The Hallow, there’s an entire list’s worth of mythical creatures that have made for excellent horror villains. However, one unlikely addition to this collection is Lubdan from the Leprechaun series.

Though this franchise got exponentially ridiculous over the subsequent sequels to the point of being set in outer space by the fourth entry, the first film took its horror components semi-seriously. In this film, the titular creature posed a genuine threat and was as gleefully entertaining as he was sadistic. All Lubdan wanted was his to get his stolen gold back and he’d stop at nothing to retrieve what was rightfully his.

Alongside the comically violent kills, what made Lubdan a surprisingly effective villain was Warwick Davis’s performance. The actor completely embraced the silliness of the character and has as much fun playing him as we did while watching him. Even when the series jumped the shark, Davis, to his credit, still put in the same amount of energy into the role.

If there’s any reason to check out this film series, it would be to see Davis having the time of his life as a rhyming and murderous leprechaun.
