10 Ridiculous International Movie Posters

1. The Matrix

Another Ghanaian poster, and another absolute belter. You don't have to squint especially hard to deduce what's not quite right about this artistic effort from Accra, chalked up to help promote 1999's seminal sci-fi classic The Matrix.

There might be no spoon, but Keanu Reeves' Neo looks like he's appearing on the back of one. Oh, and that's not former West Brom manager Gary Megson in the corner, but Laurence Fishburne. Honest!

A little admission at this point: as wonderful as these Ghanaian film posters are, they're sadly not the official localised efforts, but rather the work of amateur artisans produced for the country's booming mid-'90s bootleg VHS market. More often than not, those commissioned to paint the advertisements had often not even seen the film in question. Though they probably had seen a real human being.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
