6. Star Wars: The Force Awakens (China)

Star Wars returned for the first time in nearly two decades with 2015's mammoth The Force Awakens, and it did so with a glittering ensemble cast. Though your parsecage may vary on who the movie's true hero was - Daisy Ridley's Rey ultimately emerges as a new Force (!) to be reckoned with - it was John Boyega's Finn who took the accolade pre-release.

Unless you were in China, that is, where the film's lead character is apparently rolling hairdryer BB-8. For reasons which have yet to be demystified - which means the worst assumption is probably correct - Boyega's face was entirely de-emphasised on the Chinese version of the poster, whilst other non-white characters - Lupita Nyong'o's Maz Kanata and Oscar Isaac's Poe Dameron - were scrubbed out entirely (Chewbacca as well, for some reason).

Boyega played it cool, brushing off the controversy in the most dismissive style possible. "It don’t matter how small you want to put someone on the poster," he said. "A lot of people are going to see Star Wars. My black face is going to be running throughout that whole thing."

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
