10 Ridiculous Upcoming Movie Performances That Sound Like Jokes
1. Russell Crowe - The Mummy
Look, we could talk all day about how Tom Cruise's role in The Mummy is really, really bizarre, because this movie - whatever this movie is - invites about a billion different questions. Because the latest take on The Mummy is already an inherently insane film before you get to the part where Russell Crowe is set turn up as Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde (yes, the split personality guy from Robert Louis Stevenson's classic tale).
Assumedly the plan is to establish the character here with the intention of a having him lead his own film later on, this being the first in a series of shared universe movies involving the classic Universal monsters. Except Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde was never a classic Universal monster, was he? Not sure what that's all about, then.
It's also been hinted by Crowe that Dr. Jekyll is going to assume the role of a Nick Fury type character - one who knows all the angles and, uh, also might be immortal.
But Russell Crowe? As Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde? What a strange part for such a seasoned actor to play - especially one who seems to take himself as seriously as Crowe. I mean, Tom Cruise just plays a guy called Nick Morton. Who in Brendan Fraser's name is Nick Morton? It's all incredibly strange, and this ridiculous role is the cherry on top.
