5. James Bond In... High Fall - Skyfall
Skyfall took James Bond on a personal journey and hit very close to home. It featured a focused story and a great villain, so what could possibly go wrong? While the film as a whole is brilliant, the section I want to focus on now happens in the opening minutes. As 007 engages in some fisticuffs atop a train, his partner Eve tries to line up a shot against his opponent. This being a moving train coupled with the fact that both men are constantly moving means that Eve is somewhat reluctant to pull the trigger - that is, until she's given a point blank order from Judie Dench's M. What happens next can only be described as a major oops moment for her, as instead of hitting her target, she hits Bond, catapulting him from the train into a choppy river below. It could be argued that having been shot, he passed out during the fall and hit the water feeling relaxed. I don't buy into this, as James Bond is no stranger to the odd stray bullet. If the gunshot wound didn't finish him off, he would have hit a rock and drowned. Cue title sequence! The next time we see him, despite apparently suffering from a major case of depression beard, he's still boffing the local ladies and drinking heavily in a beach bar. The only negative effect his injuries have is the need for him to retrain in a very gritty British montage.
