10 Ridiculously Over-The-Top Acting Performances

8. John Malkovich - Con Air

Con Air Simon West's Con Air was hardly a masterclass in subtlety. The climax of the film entails an airplane landing on and destroying the Las Vegas strip, Nicolas Cage does a ludicrous Southern accent in one of his craziest performances and Steve Buscemi has a tea party with a little girl. And that's without mentioning John Malkovich's sociopath villain, Cyrus the Virus. Malkovich is a fine actor, everybody knows that, which makes his appearance and performance in Con Air all the more strange. Malkovich manages to outdo Cage in the intense weirdo stakes, which if you've seen the film is truly something to be hold. Seeing Malkovich be this much of a maniac in such a bad film is something of a guilty pleasure, because it's so bad you can't help but stare and look mystified. Malkovich wouldn't let his over-the-top alter ego out of the bag again until 2007's Burn After Reading to similarly hilarious results, only this time they were intentional.
