6. Cici Bites The Dust Scream 2
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3uFjIAIkrqQ Sometimes, one small element can elevate a scene to a level it wouldnt otherwise attain. Such is the case in this scene. This scene applies one of Alfred Hitchcocks rules of suspense, said rule being that giving the audience a piece of information that the characters dont have will cause the audience to feel suspense. Wes Craven utilizes this technique brilliantly here, causing the audience to feel nervous even before the characters realize that they should feel the same way. In most ways, this scene is like any other death scene in any other slasher flick. The scene contains all of the typical ingredients for such a scene: pretty young girls, ominous phone calls, worthless cops, and a big house full of nooks and crannies. What sets this scene apart, though, is the moment we come upon at 3:29 in this video, where Ghostface enters the house. We see this moment from over the characters shoulders as theyre looking in the opposite direction. This blink-and-youll-miss-it moment immediately turns up the dials of suspense on the rest of the scene, leaving us to wonder just where in the house Ghostface is going to pop out of, knife ready. Unfortunately, the scene degenerates into a typical slasher murder scene the moment Ghostface comes out of his hiding place. However, the suspenseful moments leading up to the reveal make up for this scenes shortcomings.
