10 Scariest Horror Movies Set In Motels
4. 1408
1408 centres around an author called Mike Enslin who deals with the supernatural. (Based on that premise alone, you know this story was penned by Stephen King.) For years, Enslin has made a career discrediting paranormal stories all across the US.
While in New York, he hears about an inn called The Dolphin that claims to have the most haunted room in the country. The manager, Gerald Olin, informs Enslin that no resident has survived longer than one hour after entering Room 1408. Dubious of Olin's claims, Enslin accepts the challenge and enters the room. For the next 60 minutes, all of Enslin's cynicism for the paranormal is stripped away as the room compels him to experience every haunting scenario possible.
Even though the premise is intriguing, it's so flimsy, you wouldn't think there wouldn't be enough material for an entire film without resorting to cliches. However, the films' dark sense of humour, solid performances, and creative scares keeps you engaged throughout. Also, the fact that there is no explanation why 1408 is haunted except 'it's an evil !*$% room' makes it all the more petrifying.
