10 Scariest Movie Ghosts EVER
3. Sadako - Ringu (1998)
With her long, lank, black hair and thin, white-gowned figure, the image of Sadako the vengeful Japanese spirit has fully entered public consciousness. She is a figure that immediately evokes not just death, but dread.
It may sound weird to suggest that the scariest thing about Sadako’s design is her hair, but we viewers fear the unknown more than what we are shown, and by obscuring her face Sadako is made all the more terrifying.
Throughout this story of a cursed videotape her image appears onscreen in the creepy footage. If this wasn’t scary enough, in the movie’s finale Sadako escapes the confines of the screen and slowly crawls out of the television in a sequence that is every viewer’s worst nightmare come true.
She is gradual, inescapable, creeping death.
