6. Olga Gets Contorted - Suspiria

Luca Guadagnino's divisive remake of Dario Argento's horror classic is a wild movie, and though it arguably gets a little too silly for its own good near the end, there's a lot to be repulsed and mortified by.

By far the most memorably visceral and unsettling scene in the film takes place fairly soon after Susie (Dakota Johnson) has joined the Markos Dance Academy.

After enraged Soviet student Olga (Elena Fokina) decides to leave the troupe, she finds herself trapped in a reflective room, just as Susie is invited to perform a dance in another room.

Susie's dance becomes increasingly aggressive and primal, and this is intercut with Olga's body being contorted into positions no body should ever be contorted.

Her bones break and her organs squelch while Susie taps into her inner savage, after which the academy's matrons dig some meat hooks into Olga's barely-living carcass and carry her off.

It sets a wonderfully horrific tone from act one, and both the makeup effects and pin-sharp editing are absolutely spectacular.
