10 Scenes That Could Have Been Cut From Zack Snyder's Justice League

5. Vulko

Justice League
Warner Bros.

As Aquaman locates the trident of his people, the Atlantean advisor, Vulko, implores him to accept his destiny as king, which he refuses.

When Steppenwolf steals the second Mother Box, Aquaman’s partner, Mera, begs him to return to Atlantis. Once again, he rejects this request. After Aquaman helps save the world from Steppenwolf, he has a change of heart and decides to return with his people.

Because the first two scenes have the same dynamic, it would’ve been better to scrap one of them. It’s great that Zack Snyder is showing Aquaman’s growth as a character but these story beats are repeated in his standalone film.

We don't need to set up the conflict for his movie if it's unrelated to the current plot. Imagine if The Avengers was sprinkled with references to the Winter Soldier or the Mandarin. Remember in Avengers: Age of Ultron where Thor goes off purely to set up the plot of Thor: Ragnarok? That's what these scenes feel like.

Those plot points aren't the central story for now so we don't need to focus on them.

Even though Willem Dafoe is excellent as Vulko, it would be more logical to remove his scene rather than Mera's since she has a more personal relationship with Aquaman.
