10 Scenes That Could Have Been Cut From Zack Snyder's Justice League

4. Lex Luthor

Justice League
Warner Bros. Pictures

In one of the multiple tacked-on endings, we learn Lex Luthor has escaped from Arkham Asylum. We then see the bald billionaire on a yacht, ordering Deathstroke to take down Batman. Although the one-eyed mercenary is uninterested at first, he accepts the gig once Lex reveals Batman's secret identity.

This teaser was supposed to lead into the solo Batman film with Ben Affleck writing, starring, and directing. But because that film has been cancelled, there was no need to add this scene in.

Now, you could argue that stingers setting up future movies are nothing new. If the MCU can do it, why can't the DC Extended Universe?

But here's the difference: you don't need to hint at EVERY upcoming film! Justice League already teased a direct sequel and the Aquaman solo flick. The time-travel scene also served as a reference to the Flashpoint plot for the Flash movie.

If you try and set up too many stories, you can lose sight of the one you are trying to tell. We don’t need to know these other films are coming. If THIS movie tells the story well, we will want to see more.
