10 Sci-Fi Films To Be Genuinely Excited About In 2016
4. Passengers
Release Date: December 21, 2016 There are so many reasons to be excited about Passengers that it is hard to know where to begin. The prospect of two of the most genuinely likeable actors of the moment in Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence teaming up is a mouth-watering one, though having Imitation Game director Morten Tyldum take charge of a script penned by Prometheus writer Jon Spaihts means that Passengers has the potential to be one of the films of the year, sci-fi or otherwise. The film follows a space ship on a long trip to a distant planet, with the people on board frozen in hibernation for the length of the journey. When a computer malfunction leads to Jim (Pratt) being awoken from his sleep some 90 years too early, he faces decades of solitude before an inevitable death. It isnt long before he makes the decision to wake up one of his fellow passengers, and what guy wouldnt choose Jennifer Lawrence under the circumstances? The Passengers script has been doing the rounds on the internet since 2007, with Jim and Aurora once set to be played by Keanu Reeves and Emily Blunt, the former also producing. With all due respect to those two, it's fair to say that Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence is an upgrade, with both capable of subtle humour as well as the brooding intensity that a Reeves/Blunt lead film would have no doubt relied on.
