The title is misleading, I’ll say that much.

The plot makes so little sense that they had to make up for it somehow, and they chose to do that with bugs. Lots of bugs.

The story follows an exterminator who gets so high on his own insecticide that he hallucinates being a secret agent. Not a regular secret agent, mind, but one working under a boss who just so happens to be a giant beetle.

It’s essentially James Bond if Judy Dench was a ladybug.

His mission is to take down a corporation that produces drugs made from bugs, and along the way he encounters… more bugs. And also, his wife’s doppelganger. But that’s a whole other thing.

It has become somewhat of a cult classic, being praised for its surreal visuals and underlying themes. Really, I just think audiences love the idea of giant beetles wearing clothes and getting shot. Each to their own, I guess.
