10 Sci-Fi Movie Death Scenes That Came Out Of Nowhere

1. Everyone - The Cabin In The Woods

Okay, sure, it was fairly clear were going to die in this ingenious sci-fi horror from Joss Whedon and Drew Goddard, but everything that happens over the film is wonderfully unexpected.

Trapped in a cabin (duh), a group of friends - including Thor himself, Chris Hemsworth - begin to be terrorised by the undead, ghosts and bizarre, inexplicable force fields. They begin to die one by one and we're soon hit with the revelation that their whole trip is a sacrifice being controlled by evil scientists who are trying to feed some malevolent gods.

Hemsworth dies trying to jump over a canyon, struck down by an invisible barrier blocking his way; his girlfriend is killed by violent zombies; and later the organisation in charge of the sacrifice are overwhelmed by the various ghouls and monsters after they are let loose by the protagonists. In one of cinema's most gory but nonetheless awesome scenes, the creatures are let loose from captivity and decimate the organisation.

In the end, not even the final girl (Kristen Connolly) or the lovable stoner (Fran Kranz) make it out alive. And it's pure genius.
