10 Sci-Fi Movie Death Scenes That Came Out Of Nowhere

2. Sam Bell (Sam Rockwell) - Moon

Moon is an underrated gem of a film directed by Duncan Jones (son of David Bowie) and showcasing the untouchable acting talents of pre-Oscar Sam Rockwell. There are no monsters, aliens or ghouls, just one man trying to uncover a mystery that escalates to insane lengths as the film progresses.

Sam Bell (Rockwell) is an astronaut working alone on a mining base on the moon. He is set to be there for three years, and spends his solitary days dreaming of the day he gets to go home to his family.

After a typical day working on the mines, Bell comes across a crashed rover with an unlikely driver - himself. He and the other Sam Bell soon discover that they are in fact clones, designed to last only three years a piece. It's an eerie and shocking twist, made all the more twisted by the older Sam's violent and disturbing deterioration as the film goes on.

It's brilliant stuff, but not what you expect to see going in.
