10 Sci-Fi Movie Villains That Had Totally Lame Deaths

Those rogues who went out with a whimper rather than a bang.

In the classic cinematic tales of Good vs. Evil, there's something special and spellbinding about seeing a villain done well.

While morally we're not encouraged to cheer on the bad guys and gals, it's fascinating and utterly engaging to see a rogue delivered in a way that maximises them. For some villains, that may simply be a case of seeing them amass a ginormous body count, while for other villains it may be more a case of seeing them fleshed out in a multi-layered way that showcases them as genuinely interesting characters.

Looking solely at the realm of science fiction pictures, and we've seen some truly great villains over the decades. The problem is, some of these villains haven't been afforded a demise that's in fitting with their characters. Elsewhere, there are also those rogues who were nothing particularly spectacular in their own respective films, yet their deaths still manage to standout for just how outright stupid and lame they were.

With all of that in mind, then, here are ten villains of sci-fi movies whose deaths left us all shaking our heads in disbelief.

10. Captain Phasma - The Last Jedi

Ahead of the release of The Force Awakens, Gwendoline Christie's Captain Phasma was hyped up as a major player for the impending new Star Wars trilogy. And for elements of that Episode VII offering, Phasma was indeed a key component of the unfolding narrative.

By the time of The Last Jedi, then, it was expected that Captain Phasma would be given an expanded role which would position her as a main player in a galaxy far, far away. Only that wasn't the case.

If people thought Phasma was short-changed in The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi was farcical in how little it used the character. And even more disappointing was in how Captain Phasma was killed off in that Rian Johnson-helmed picture.

Following a brief scuffle with John Boyega's Finn, Phasma has the visor of her helmet smashed up, before the ground below her gives way and she falls to a fiery death. It was bland, it was forgettable, and it was disappointing - which, in hindsight, seems sadly fitting for Captain Phasma.

While there may have at one point been plans to give Captain Phasma a larger role in the Star Wars sequel trilogy, ultimately the character merely became a marketing tool.
