10 Sci-Fi Movies Too Scary To Finish
1. The Fly
Let’s be honest, the moment you saw the title of this
list it was only a matter of time before the name David Cronenberg made another appearance. Indeed, an earlier draft of this article even featured a
triumvirate of the Canadian auteur’s body horror extravaganzas, each of which added
their own stomach-turning special ingredient to the helmer’s deeply unsettling back
catalogue of nightmare-inducing body horror—for anyone curious and brave
enough, The Brood and Shivers were the pair which didn’t make this list, but
could have.
However, 1986’s remake The Fly stands alone amongst the director’s oeuvre for its ability to meld upsettingly gruesome effects work with a tragic love story, and if the stomach-flipping sight of a man plucking his fingernails off doesn’t turn you away, the sheer tragedy of his story is sure to break the heart of even a hardened gore hound.
Hitting in both the feels and stomach at once, this one stands alone amongst classic sci-fi flicks as a movie which will ear you out either viscerally or emotionally, and can almost guarantee you’ll never make it to the credits as a result.
