10 Seemingly Great Films That Unravelled On A Second Viewing

6. Up

Putting Up, perhaps one of the most beloved animated movies of the last 10 years, on a list like this will surely make for a hugely controversial pick - but it's legitimate choice, just hear us out! Before you take to the comments section, drunk, and with pitchfork in hand, consider the fact that this beautifully animated and wonderfully poignant flick from Pixar contains its greatest scenes at the very beginning of the movie.... that's right: after that, Up - and excuse the pun - begins to go downhill, offering up fun and frantic - but ultimately unmemorable - second and third acts. Which is to say, the first time you watch Up, it transfixes you with its subtle beauty - even when the second half of the movie loses a sense of focus and begins to drag, you're still thinking about the movie's tragic and touching montage from the beginning. On a second viewing, then, aware of said masterful sequence already, the rest of Up feels light and frothy in comparison - to the point where it almost seems like the film has been given way too much credit. Ask yourself: would Up be anywhere near as good without its brilliant "Married Life" sequence? The answer is: "Uh, no."
