10 Sequels That Ruined Great Movie Endings

2. Resident Evil: The Final Chapter

The Resident Evil movie franchise can eat me.

It's one of the only series in history that has actual contempt for the people who care about its story and watch each sequel. Every new instalment continually said "f**k you" to the continuity established in the last, so by the time Resident Evil: Retribution finished on an epic cliffhanger, fans probably shouldn't have expected them to actually follow up on it in the sequel.

Sadly, the idea of that cliffhanger was too juicy to not want to see fully realised. The penultimate movie ends on the promise of humanity's last stand - a bunch of iconic video game characters finally united, former villains becoming heroes to help the larger cause, thousands of monsters about to ravage the last safe haven (which also happens to be the goddamn White House!) - and everyone waited on baited breath to see how it would be resolved in the next flick.

Of course, years later The Final Chapter came out, and immediately skipped over the battle. Instead of indulging in it, it begins with the fight already over, everyone but protagonist Alice dead, and barely an explanation as to what happened.

Thanks, I hate it.
