8. The Ring 2 (Rasen)
This one is an interesting curio. It may seem like an odd entry at first, as there was a Ring 2; both a direct sequel to the Japanese original, as well as to the American remake. But there was another version, which was shot side by side with the original film. They shared most of the same cast and crew, but different directors. And while The Ring became one of the most success films in the history of Japan, Rasen came and went without much notice. In fact it was so neglected that they made The Ring 2 a year later, and most people didnt even realise a sequel already existed. Rasen differs from The Ring in that its less of a ghost story and more of a sci-fi thriller. Following on from the ending of The Ring, the survivors of the original are quickly dispatched and a new hero has to deal with Sadakos curse. The main complaints about the movie are that its seriously slow moving, and theres not much actual horror to be found. By all accounts its not a tragedy the film has been forgotten, so only true completists should seek it out.
