3. The Son Of Kong
One of the earliest examples of a cheapie cash in sequel, The Son Of Kong was quickly thrown together a mere 9 months after the release of King Kong. Its not terrible, but when compared to the iconic predecessor it's disposable fluff. The plot has filmmaker Carl Denham return to Skull Island in search of some buried treasure, where he meets Kongs albino son. Kong Jr. is a gentler creature than his dad, and he helps his new friends survive attacks by the islands unfriendly dinosaur population. Made for less than half the budget and featuring a more light hearted tone, The Son Of Kong lacks the scale and sense of adventure of King Kong. Its boosted by some nice stop motion effects for its time, and the cast are a charming bunch. As it was only intended to cash in on a surprise success, it lacks the heart that made that movie a classic, and has been essentially been resigned to a little seen footnote in its history.
