10 Sequels To Classic Movies You Had No Idea Existed
2. Ace Ventura, Jr.: Pet Detective
Jim Carrey has a well known allergy to sequels. He was contractually bound to make Ace Ventura: When Natures Calls, but beyond that he doesnt like repeating himself. That doesnt stop studios from making sequels to his biggest hits without him, and theres a special circle of Hell that plays Dumb And Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd, Son Of The Mask and Evan Almighty on an endless loop. In 2009, Ace Ventura, Jr.: Pet Detective was added to that growing list. A straight to DVD release, the story follows Aces chubby, obnoxious son as he tries to prove his mother is innocent of stealing a panda. The absence of Ace Sr. is explained away by stating he disappeared on a case years before. It would be unfair to blame young star Josh Flitter for the film being terrible, but theres no denying Ace Jr. is deeply, deeply annoying. He copies Aces style and attitude, but Flitter, to put it bluntly, is no Jim Carrey. So centring a whole film around him results in a vortex that consumes anything resembling comedy or entertainment. On a sidenote, Carrey did break his sequel embargo recently with Dumb And Dumber To. Hopefully he wont break it ever again.
