10 Shocking Batman Plans You Won’t Believe Almost Happened
4. Justice League: Mortal
DC's top heroes will finally come together on the big screen in this year's Justice League movie, but it actually almost happened all the way back in 2009.
Directed by Mad Max's master of carnage George Miller, Justice League: Mortal is one of the most high profile films that never happened.
In what would have been a pretty faithful adaptation of the Justice League story Tower of Babel, Superman (D. J. Cortrona), Batman (Armie Hammer), Wonder Woman (Megan Gale), Flash (Adam Brody), Green Lantern (Common), Aquaman (Santiago Cabrera) and Martian Manhunter (Hugh Keays-Byrne) would come together to stop Maxwell Lord (Jay Baruchel) and Talia al Ghul (Teresa Palmer) from using plans stolen from the Batcomputer to take out the world's superheroes.
The film would have borrowed a page from Marvel's playbook in casting relatively obscure actors to not draw attention away from the characters and, if it had been released, it would have beaten Avengers to the punch by three years.
Unfortunately, thanks to a number of factors, including the writer's strike and the film going over budget, the whole project was cancelled despite being pretty close to the start of filming. All that exists now are some set videos and a few bits of concept art.
