10 Shocking (But Believable) Theories About Upcoming Movies
7. The Statue Of Liberty Gets Destroyed Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes
For fans of The Planet Of The Apes series, 2011s Rise was a smörgåsbord of references. From big and obvious ones (take your stinking paws off me you damn dirty ape) to things only die-hards had a hope of picking up on (Caesars first word is no, the same as the ape who led the mythical uprising of the original film), the Statue of Liberty was conspicuous in its appearance. An integral part of the series legacy, the item that proved Charlton Heston was on Earth all along only got a minor cameo in the film as a wooden toy. Dont expect the sequel, Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes, to play things so loosely. Not only does Matt Reeves have form with the statue (he beheaded it in Cloverfield), but the settings a lot more suitable this time. Lady Liberty in a damaged state would feel very much at home in the virus-inflicted, run-down world the film kicks off in, even if Reeves isnt willing to push too far into the simian future (a lengthy franchise appears to be the order of the day).
