10 Shocking (But Believable) Theories About Upcoming Movies

7. The Statue Of Liberty Gets Destroyed €“ Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes

For fans of The Planet Of The Apes series, 2011€™s Rise was a smörgåsbord of references. From big and obvious ones (€œtake your stinking paws off me you damn dirty ape€) to things only die-hards had a hope of picking up on (Caesar€™s first word is €œno€, the same as the ape who led the mythical uprising of the original film), the Statue of Liberty was conspicuous in its appearance. An integral part of the series€™ legacy, the item that proved Charlton Heston was on Earth all along only got a minor cameo in the film as a wooden toy. Don€™t expect the sequel, Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes, to play things so loosely. Not only does Matt Reeves have form with the statue (he beheaded it in Cloverfield), but the setting€™s a lot more suitable this time. Lady Liberty in a damaged state would feel very much at home in the virus-inflicted, run-down world the film kicks off in, even if Reeves isn€™t willing to push too far into the simian future (a lengthy franchise appears to be the order of the day).
