10 Shocking (But Believable) Theories About Marvel's Phase 3
3. Neither Mary Jane Watson Or Gwen Stacy Will Appear - Spider-Man
In Sam Raimi's original Spider-Man movie, there was Mary Jane Watson. In Spider-Man 3, the director opted to introduce Peter Parker's original love, Gwen Stacy, as a non-version of her actual character; a mere plot point to test Spider's love for Kirsten Dunst. In the rebooted Spider-Man franchise, audiences got a proper version of Gwen Stacy (brilliantly embodied by Emma Stone). And for the reboot of the reboot? Well, how 'bout no-one? Whilst the Spider-Man movies have often thrived on account of their female characters, there's a theory going round right now that purports that none of the iconic Spider-Man love interests will appear. Whilst this sounds like something akin to blasphemy as far as Spider-Man film adaptations are concerned, it kind of makes sense; after all, the MCU is already huge and packed out with characters - throwing in another romance isn't really needed. It might be genuinely better to wait a movie (or two) before introducing Mary Jane or Gwen Stacy to the MCU - you know, to give folk some time to mourn the loss of Emma Stone. And it this theory turns out to be correct, it could ensure a more focused Spidey flick.
