10 Shocking Movie Deaths That Came Out Of NOWHERE
8. The King's Man - Conrad Oxford
This particular death is something of an outlier. The rest of the death scenes on this list are fantastic, this one will be more divisive for sure.
The King's Man is Matthew Vaughn's thoroughly enjoyable and often-underappreciated prequel that details the formation of Kingsman, with the founder of the organisation being revealed as Orlando Oxford (Ralph Fiennes), a British aristocrat and spy. Orlando has a son, Conrad (Harris Dickinson), who he tries to keep from fighting in WWI but Conrad ultimately ends up on the Front Line anyway. And then, while delivering a message across enemy lines, he's mistaken for a German soldier and shot dead.
This was... a choice, alright. It does clash tonally with the rest of the film, which is lighter by comparison, but it's undeniably bold too. Furthermore, it does tie in with how the foundations of Kingsman were described in the first film; Harry Hart (Colin Firth) said it was founded by the British elite who lost their heirs in the First World War.
Regardless of what you think, it was a real surprise and Vaughn deserves credit for doing something this ballsy.
