10 Shocking Movie Deaths That Came Out Of NOWHERE

7. Da 5 Bloods - Eddie

Da 5 Bloods - which tells the story of several African-American Vietnam vets returning to Vietnam in order to find some treasure they buried while serving there - is a criminally underrated Spike Lee joint that never got its due. One of the many great tricks it has up its sleeve is this jolter of a surprise death that'll have viewers going "WTF just happened?!"

While in the Vietnam jungle, the unfortunate Eddie (Norm Lewis) steps on a landmine and is suddenly blown up. He lingers briefly after this, and we're treated to a quick look at his mutilated body - rendered with the kind-of horrifying gore effects normally reserved for horror movies - before he passes away.

It's already shocking enough, and the grisly imagery made it even more difficult to watch. It's likely that this scene single-handedly earned Da 5 Bloods its 18 certificate in the UK. Landmines have appeared in plenty of movies over the years, but it's difficult to think of any other time they've been used to such harrowing effect as this.
