10 Shocking Ways Actors Were Cast That You Didn't Know About
3. Edward Furlong Was Picked Up Outside Of A Boy's Club - Terminator 2: Judgement Day
Though not quite as creepy as taking snaps of a young Haley Joel Osment in the middle of an IKEA, the story of how Edward Furlong went from complete unknown to one of the stars of James Cameron's Terminator sequel can still be filed under the slightly odd development category.
After cycling through the many up-and-coming child actors then plying their trade within the industry for the role of a young John Connor in Judgement Day, Cameron and casting director Mali Finn were at a dead-end in their long-running search.
Then, when knocking around a Boy's Club in Pasadena, Mali approached a Furlong who was understandably a little concerned about an "older lady" staring at him. Without skipping a beat, the kid quipped at Finn, "What do you want, frog lips?” But instead of recoiling at the jagged remark, the casting director offered him the unexpected chance to read for the part of Conner.
Sure enough, as Furlong himself would admit after numerous rounds of auditioning and "sweating balls", as he put it, Cameron picked up the phone to the acting rookie and his life was changed forever.
