7. Attacking The Waitress - Brightburn
Brightburn may not be on everybody's radar, but the promising superhero-horror that takes inspiration from Superman and The Omen in equal measure showed a lot of potential when footage started being released.
While a lot of the early footage was focussed on slow, tension building shots, the brilliance of the concept shone through when Jackson A. Dunn's titular menace comes face-to-face with a terrified waitress. The fear on her face and the still, silent presence of the caped youth sends immediate chills down the spine, and his lightning fast attack proves he is an unstoppable force to make Michael Myers jealous.
The scene has been expanded upon in later trailers, and shows a plethora of powers on display, as well as a motive behind the attack on this specific civilian, but it is this classic horror set piece of a lone, vulnerable person at the mercy of the stalking murderer that makes Brightburn stand out as a contender for horror of the year.
