10 Single Moments That Sold Upcoming Movies

5. Mr. Mime's Interrogation - Detective Pikachu

Turning enormous video game and toy franchises in to feature length movies immediately creates scepticism. While The Lego Movie was a exceptionally funny and uniquely animated delight, the majority of movies made from such properties can be tedious and uninspiring.

When the first trailer for Detective Pikachu was released, the movie came across as a much slower, serious movie than the title would imply. Even when Ryan Reynolds' talking Pikachu is introduced, the buddy-cop vibes aren't exactly exploding on to the screen. In fact, nothing very funny or promising happens for most of the trailer.

That is, until, the interrogation of Mr. Mime. The playfulness of Pikachu's perp and the creativity behind the scene as a whole really showed what this movie was going to deliver, and was backed up by a much funnier and enjoyable second trailer which showed some more of Mr. Mime's scenes.

Clearly understanding that this scene sold many on the film who were previously unsure, they gave Mr. Mime another outstanding punchline to build even more excitement for this live action journey in to the world of Pokemon.
