Could anyone have guessed that 2001's The Fast and the Furious would one day lead to vehicular espionage and superpowers?

And yet, here we are, looking at a future full of spin-offs and sequels to fill the cinematic calendar, with the spin-offs starting with the Dwayne Johnson-starring Hobbs & Shaw. Alongside Jason Statham, this buddy movie stems from their frenemy relationship set up in both Furious 7 and The Fate of the Furious, and sees them teaming up once again to battle Idris Elba's superhuman Brixton.

It's the standard degree of crazy concept meets cars that we've come to expect from the franchise, but the hysterical elevator scene makes this instalment feel a step above its predecessors.

With Hobbs tricked by Shaw in to leaping out of a shattered window, only to take the elevator himself, the fight that takes place whilst hurtling down the side of a building is a perfect example of the titular duos relationship, and the perfect set-piece to keep this admirably crazy franchise rolling.
