10 Slasher Horror Movies That Had No Right To Be This Good
3. Terrifier 2 (2022)
First appearing in a collection of short films and anthology flick All Hallows' Eve, sadistic and brutally twisted Art the Clown would go on to cement himself as an underground horror icon with Damien Leone's Terrifier.
A blood-spattered and intense grindhouse romp, Terrifier made a name for itself for its unrestrained, stomach-churning violence. There was no doubt that this nightmare clown would return to our screens, with the news of a sequel - once again helmed by Leone and seeing David Howard Thornton reprise his role as the sadistic clown - causing ripples of excitement in the horror world.
Running over an hour longer than its predecessor, though, there was some concern that this overly-long sequel would dilute the relentless carnage which made Terrifier special. Thankfully, Art's latest rampage is far better than anyone expected.
The tremendous violence is back in full display and grosser than ever. But what fans weren't expecting was a greater focus on plot. This time around, Leone hints at Art's sinister past as well as adding in a supernatural twist along the way. Surreal dream sequences only add to the insanity as Terrifier 2 triples down on its premise.
There's no doubt that Art is now a modern slasher icon.
