10 Small Details You Only Notice Rewatching The Nun

4. The Baby Has Wings!

During the scene where Sister Irene joins what she thinks is all the other Nuns in the abbey for an entire night of prayer for what she hopes will keep the demon away, the camera lingers on a shot of a statue present in the room. The statue depicts a woman and a small baby, with the infant possessing two small wings that sprout from its back.

In the real world story of Valak in the Lesser Key of Soloman, Valak is actually portrayed as a mischievous small child that owns a pair of wings.

When the prayer is broken and Frenchie and Burke arrive in the room, the statue in the distance notably has the child present without any wings. Given Valak's past depictions, it's clear this is a subtle nod from the filmmakers that the demon was present in the room with Sister Irene, conjuring up the illusion of the Nuns around her, and has gone by the time the heroes are reunited.

And it's a creepy detail that serves to remind audiences that Valak is almost always present in the abbey, toying with the characters and ramping up the suspense wherever it goes.
