10 Smartest Horror Movie Decisions (That Still Got People Killed)

2. Nuking The Site From Orbit - Aliens

10 Cloverfield Lane
20th Century Fox

Arguably THE smartest horror movie protagonist we've got, Ellen Ripley dishes out the best advice and acts as someone with two real braincells to rub together throughout her whole journey with the Alien series, so it becomes increasingly frustrating watching people not heed her sage advice when sh*t hits the fan.

But that's where Corporal Hicks steps in during Aliens, taking control of the military fronted operation and acting on Ripley's instinct to "nuke the site from orbit." Calling in a drop ship, Hicks, Ripley, and the colonial marines are ready to get the hell off of the planet riddled with xenomorphs and give them an explosive kiss goodbye - with the first step to freedom born in getting the drop ship to their location.

And what a bad idea it turns out to be. The most logical decision soon turns into one that damns those stuck on the planet, since Corporal Ferro is incapacitated by a rogue alien and crashes and destroys the drop ship, colliding with the APC that houses the marine weaponry. The marines are royally screwed tactically, those on the drop ship are dead, and they're stranded on the planet - all from one simple command.
