10 Songs That Got More Popular Through Movies
8. Stuck in the Middle - Reservoir Dogs
It's always fun for a creator to have a song that is the polar opposite of what's going on onscreen. Look no further than horror movies that juxtapose their more disturbing scenes with calming music in order to get their audiences even more on edge. So when you have one of the grittiest movies of the '90s on your hands, it's a no brainer for the torture scene to be soundtracked by...folk.
On its own, "Stuck in the Middle" by Stealers Wheel is a nice little slice of folk rock, with Gerry Rafferty almost doing an impression of Bob Dylan. This cut did fairly well in its time but quickly slipped into one-hit-wonderdom, with Rafferty moving on to a solo career, but when Reservoir Dogs eventually came out, people couldn't get enough of this breezy song and someone losing an ear.
Coming towards the middle of the film, Stealers Wheel's classic tune became a foil to Mr. Blonde torturing a police officer, who removes his ear for the hell of it. It gets even more demented when Blonde gets into it, as if he finds endless joy in inflicting this kind of pain on someone. This scene might catch you off guard at first, but once you see it, you'll never hear the song the same way again.
