10 Songs That Got More Popular Through Movies

7. The End - Apocalypse Now

The Doors have always been known for writing music that was a bit on the dark side. Though they had softer moments like on "Light My Fire," their debut album closer "The End" is one of their definitive cuts, with Jim Morrison spitting out poetry and becoming more and more intense until the song's conclusion. This kind of song is the exact opposite of commercial, but how about if it was set to war?

Released in the late '70s, Apocalypse Now is already a landmark of cinema, but what really drives it is the use of The Doors' classic during one crucial scene. Playing out while watching carnage, Martin Sheen's character is held up in his bunker contemplating his next course of action. As the track turns more and more menacing, you can physically see Sheen devolve from just a regular soldier to a feral animal without any sense of sanity. There may be some humanity in the physique, but one look in his eyes will tell you that he's not really there.

The musical accompaniment eventually became so intense that Sheen eventually cut himself up and later nearly suffered a heart attack when he got too far into the character. We already knew that the Doors could get a bit weird, but this is a great example of music bringing people to their most primal form.
