10 Spine-Chilling Horror Movies Set In The Desert
8. Cargo
This post-apocalyptic horror film stars Martin Freeman as a desperate father trying to get his infant child to safety. With the world overrun by zombies, and Andy (Freeman) infected by the virus, he traverses the wildernesses of rural Australia, hoping to find someone who can take the child before it is too late.
Freeman impresses in his most serious role to date, navigating both the harsh desert and the film's Train to Busan vibes. Taking a character-driven approach to the zombie apocalypse, directors Ben Howling and Yolanda Ramke show a different side to the bush than has been offered up by other Aussie horror films.
Behind the deceptively beautiful scenery lurks danger - from packs of zombies, mad survivors and, in Andy's case, within. Cargo may not break the viewer's heart quite like Train to Busan did, but the Australian desert is sure to trample on it some, all the same.
