10 Star Trek Cameos You (Probably) Missed

3. Akiva Goldsman - Star Trek 2009

Akiva Goldsman is now best known in the Star Trek universe for his work on Star Trek: Discovery and Star Trek: Picard. He will also be writing and directing the pilot episode of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. However, more than a decade before any of this, he appeared in Star Trek 2009 as a favour from his long-time friend, J.J. Abrams.

The pair had worked with each other for years, beginning with a collaboration on Abrams' show Felicity, before Goldsman went on to write and direct several episodes of Fringe. In Abrams' first Star Trek film, he appears as one of the council members of the Vulcan Science Academy, though he doesn't get a speaking role in this.

He returned for Star Trek Into Darkness, again in an unspeaking role. This time, he played one of the Starfleet Admirals who attend the highly ill-advised top brass meeting after John Harrison attacks the Section 31 facility in London. It's unclear if his character survived the next attack, as he has not been heard or seen from since.
