10 Star Wars "Plot-Holes" That Really Aren't
4. Digested Over A Thousand Years?
The Plot-Hole:
Jabba
says that those fed to the Sarlacc will be “slowly digested over a
period of a thousand years.” How then, do its victims stay fresh?
But...
The answer is obvious – they don’t. Slow digestion does not equate to slow death: snakes such as Pythons and Anacondas can take weeks to digest a meal, but this does not mean that the meal is still breathing – otherwise it could bite. Instead their digestive system has evolved to function in this manner.
In the case of the aforementioned snakes death comes by suffocation. In the case of the Sarlacc, the victims likely loose consciousness due to the extremely toxic environment then... drown, in acid. Horrible death? Yes. Conscious while you’re turned to goop? No.
So, rather than spouting facts Jabba is insulting his victims, something very much in character for the slug.
There is no plot-hole here, only simple biology and a great deal of hubris.
