5. Who Came Up With The Clone Army? - Clone Wars

One of the most unforgivable plot holes in Attack Of The Clones is the fact that we never really learn where the hell the clone army came from. I know what I said earlier about characters asking questions in order to justify the need for an answer, but such an important plot point needed more of an explanation than we got.

Fortunately, in comes the best Star Wars show ever, Clone Wars, to provide just such an explanation. The idea for the clone army first came from Jedi Master Sifo-Dyas who, thanks to his powers of foresight, saw a cataclysmic war that they needed to prepare for.

After being kicked out of the Order for such doom saying, he lied to the cloners of Kamino by saying he had the authorization of the council to create this army. Unfortunately, unbeknownst to him, he was doing exactly what Palpatine and the Sith wanted him to do.

They assassinated Sifo, took control of the project, hired Jango Fett to be the genetic template, and altered Order 66 - which was meant as a safeguard against clones being given treacherous orders by opportunistic generals - into the Jedi kill order we know it as.

Sifo's intentions were noble, but for all his power of foresight, it's as Doctor Who said: you can't change history when you're part of it.
