Last Film Entry: Scream 4 (2011)

What's Going On? Released in April 2011, Scream 4 was intended to be the launching point of a new trilogy of Scream movies. So much so, director Wes Craven and the franchise's core cast were all contracted for Scream 5 and Scream 6, while screenwriter Kevin Williamson was already signed up for a fifth Scream.

Given the mixed response to Scream 4, the film franchise was left in limbo, which was then obviously further hit by the tragic passing of the iconic Craven in 2015.

The property would continue on, of course, with MTV's Scream TV series. A massively disappointing use of the IP, this show was unsurprisingly canned after three dull, unmemorable seasons.

Somewhat out of left-field, though, early last year saw the news that Ready or Not duo Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillet were to direct a new Scream movie that would also see the return of Williamson, Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, David Arquette and Marley Shelton, while Roger L. Jackson will be back to lend his dulcet tones to Ghostface.

In addition to that, Jack Quaid, Melissa Barrera, Jenna Ortega and Dylan Minnette are just some of the new faces joining the property this time out.

After production was delayed due to the ongoing global pandemic, this fifth Scream picture - now officially titled simply Scream - finally wrapped filming in November 2020. Plot details have largely been kept hush-hush, bar the fact that we'll once again see Sidney Prescott revisiting her past in Woodsboro.

As it stands, Paramount Pictures has Scream set for a 14 January 2022 release.
