10 Steps To Successfully Reboot The X-Men Into The MCU

2. Justify Their Existence

As mentioned earlier in this article, one of the main issues facing the rebooted X-Men is explaining how they fit into a continuity that's been established for well over a decade, and why nobody was aware that the mutant gene even existed up until now, or why they didn't pay any interest to it if even if they did.

Due to Fox holding the rights to the characters and their associated terms up until they were bought out by Disney, 'mutant' is a word that has never been uttered out loud in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. They skirted around the issue by labeling Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver as 'enhanced', but now they have to find a way to coin the term and make it canon without it looking forced or awkward.

They could always make them something else entirely, but that would likely generate massive backlash from fans, so Kevin Feige and his brain-trust at Marvel Studios need to come up with a logical and reasonable explanation as to why mutants have suddenly sprung up out of nowhere and now play a key role in the franchise, rather than making it as blatantly obvious as 'here are the X-Men because we own them now'.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
