6. Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius Best Animated Picture (2002)
Before people jump down my throat for this one let me first say that I love this movie. I grew up watching Jimmy Neutron and dont tell me you never laughed when Sheen sang Im peein in the shower." The movie itself is clever and hilarious and you know what? It's also a little bit touching. That being said, there were some other animated flicks that year that I think were more visually stunning and had far better stories. The one that sticks out most for me is Atlantis: The Lost Empire." I get mixed reviews when I discuss the movie Atlantis as some people believe it to be a weak Disney film, but man do I love it. I think the visuals are brilliant and the cavalcade of characters are a force to be reckoned with. Atlantis focuses on a weak-willed, mild-mannered scientist obsessed with finding the lost city of Atlantis, for those who don't know. With the help of a few strangers looking for the riches of Atlantis he makes it there. What is fantastic about this movie is the quasi-Jules Verne feel it has to it. The machines and vehicles presented in the movie are fantastic and the character design is outstanding. So why was Jimmy Neutron nominated over this fan favourite? Perhaps it was the unique style of animation that piqued the interest of the academy or the great soundtrack? Who knows, the Academy movies in mysterious ways. Whatever the reason it seems unfair that other movies werent on the bill.
