7. Transformers: Dark of the Moon - Best Sound Mixing, Sound Editing & Visuals (2012)
With a year that is so stock full of visual, audio and aesthetically incredible films why would the Academy even bother to put this film into any of these categories? Unlike the other films in these groups, Transformers didnt have the finesse to carry itself as a legitimate nominee. These categories are also notorious for having only two or three nominees, so why bog down the ballot? Rise of the Planet of the Apes was a perfectly visual movie, Harry Potter and Reel Steel both flexed their visual muscles so then why werent they up for any of these Oscars? With films like Hugo and War Horse up for the sound award- why even bother mentioning the terrible third movie in the Transformers trilogy? This is a perfect example of the academys need to please the masses. Transformers was purely a blockbuster film not intended for Oscar wins (which it received none of thankfully), but I feel it only made it to the list to appease people who dont watch movies. Michael Bay is notorious for creating big explosions and big visuals so I supposed its understandable why people would be pleased with the CGI in this film. But, its the third film in the trilogy and unlike Lord of the Rings these ones did not improve with time. Of course when the first Transformers came out we are all amazed by the appearance of the robots, but I would never want a movie to win for giving me migraines.
