10 Subtle Comic Book Movie Details You Definitely Didn't Notice

8. The Chicken - Watchmen

Watchmen Four LEgged Chicken
DC Comics

In the unconventional universe created by Alan Moore for Watchmen - which seems to run parallel to ours and splits at the point of the murder of Bruce Wayne's parents - there are strange things that seem entirely accepted. An invulnerable naked God-man for instance. Or a giant tiger called Bubastis. Or a living inkblot test superhero mask.

And it's perhaps Bubastis that is the key to understanding the scene in Zack Snyder's adaptation in which a background character can be heard saying "I'm really glad I ordered the four-legged chicken!" in the diner. Surely that must be the genetic work of Adrian Veidt like his pet tiger?

The line is actually a nod to the corresponding panel in the comics, which featured a mysteriously multi-legged poultry carried on a platter.
