10 Summer Horror Movies You Have To See

7. Sleepaway Camp

Of all the summer camp horror movies to follow Friday the 13th, Sleepaway Camp is definitely one of the most iconic, as cheesy and downright ridiculous as it is.

The movie follows a quiet young girl who's sent to camp for the summer. She doesn't talk much, partially due to the traumatic experience of her family being killed in a boating accident. While at the camp, it soon becomes clear that a murderer is afoot, and campers are mysteriously picked off one by one.

Like Friday the 13th, the movie puts viewers in the point of view of the killer, and you never see who the murderer is until the very end. In that way it's kind of like a mystery in addition to a horror film, although it soon becomes painfully obvious who the killer is.

Sleepaway Camp has all of the cliches of the summer camp movie, and it's a ton of cheesy fun. The deaths are somewhat restrained given the film's low budget, but there are still some gory shots in there like a great kill in the shower towards the end. With plenty of scenes on the beach, in the water and all around the camp, the movie absolutely reeks of summer.

It also has one of the most bizarre endings in horror history, but that really needs to be seen to be believed.
